A private boat day in Phuket is one of the most effective team events available in the region. No conference room, no agenda pressure, no phones — just your team on the water.
A boat creates a genuinely neutral environment. There is no hierarchy signalled by office layout, no hierarchy of who gets a window seat. Everyone is on the same deck. That changes how people interact — teams talk differently when they are relaxed, away from screens, and doing something unusual together. This is why corporate charters consistently produce better relationship outcomes than resort-based events of the same duration and cost.
The logistics are simple from the company side. You book the boat, we handle everything on the water. Your group arrives at the marina; the rest is taken care of. There is no venue setup, no catering coordination, no AV to worry about. For HR and event teams already managing a packed programme, this matters.
Client entertainment works particularly well on the water. A day on a private yacht in the Andaman Sea is memorable in a way that a dinner reservation is not. Clients associate the experience with you — and they talk about it afterwards.
A full catering setup is standard for corporate charters. The operator can arrange a buffet-style lunch with Thai and international dishes, served on deck. Cold drinks, water, and soft drinks are typically included in charter packages; beer and wine can be added. For premium client entertainment, a chef on board can prepare fresh seafood and dishes to order throughout the day. If your company has specific dietary requirements or branding preferences for the food presentation, discuss this at the planning stage — caterers are used to corporate requests.
Some operators can accommodate company-branded items on board — flags, napkins, gifts, or branded cooler bags. This works well for client days where you want the brand to be present without being heavy-handed. Speak to the operator about lead time, as branded items need to be organised before departure day.
The boat can anchor at locations suitable for snorkelling, paddleboarding, kayaking, and swimming. These activities are inclusive and do not require prior experience — they work for mixed-ability groups and tend to draw in even the most reluctant participants. For a more structured programme, some operators can arrange a guided snorkel session or a fishing line for groups who want something more active. The key advantage over land-based activities is that everyone does the same thing at the same time in the same place — there is no splitting into groups or managing different schedules.
A catamaran or motor yacht has covered saloon space that can be used for a short presentation or briefing — particularly useful if the charter combines a working element with recreation. There is no built-in AV equipment on most charter boats, but battery-powered speakers and a laptop are straightforward to bring on board. Keep any working session short; people have not booked a boat day to sit inside.
A sailing catamaran in the 44–55ft range is the ideal choice. These boats provide a spacious deck, comfortable saloon, and multiple seating areas. The twin hulls mean minimal rolling — even colleagues who are nervous about seasickness tend to manage well. A catamaran in this size range carries 12–16 passengers comfortably for a full day, with space to move around freely rather than being packed together.
Larger catamarans (55–65ft) or motor yachts with upper deck and fly bridge can accommodate this range. Alternatively, two boats chartered together allow the group to be split and then brought together at anchor — this can actually work better for team dynamics, as the boats become conversation topics in themselves.
Groups of this size require a purpose-built day charter vessel or a combination of multiple boats. Phuket has a number of larger charter vessels designed specifically for this market. The experience is slightly different from a private yacht — more like a private boat party than an intimate yacht day — but the format still provides privacy, catering, and a full day on the water.
Corporate charters can be invoiced directly to your company. Most operators issue a proper tax invoice suitable for expense reporting, and can provide a receipt in whatever format your finance team requires. VAT documentation is available on request. Payment is usually 50% deposit at booking and 50% before departure. Bank transfer is the standard method; credit card payment may be possible with some operators.
If you are booking from outside Thailand and need to process payment internationally, confirm the bank details and any transfer fees in advance. SWIFT transfers to Thai bank accounts are routine but may take 2–3 business days.
For groups under 20, you can often book with a week's notice if your dates are flexible. For groups of 20–50, particularly during high season (December–April), allow 4–6 weeks minimum. Boats suitable for larger corporate groups get booked out quickly around the New Year period and Chinese New Year. If you have a fixed event date, contact operators as soon as the date is confirmed — provisionally hold the boat and confirm once your numbers are finalised.
Light branding is possible — flags, table items, gift bags, and printed materials can be brought on board. Permanent or semi-permanent boat signage is not possible since the vessel is privately owned. Discuss your branding requirements with the operator at booking stage so they can advise on what works in practice and whether any items need to be sourced in advance.
Yes. Beer, wine, and spirits can be arranged as part of the catering package or brought on board by the group. There are no restrictions on alcohol consumption on private charter vessels in Thai waters. However, the captain retains authority over safety matters — anyone whose behaviour creates a safety risk can be asked to comply with crew instructions. For daytime corporate events, most groups self-regulate without any issue.
Catamarans are significantly more stable than monohull yachts and most people with mild motion sensitivity manage fine. For those with genuine concerns, over-the-counter motion sickness tablets taken the evening before and the morning of the trip are effective. The route can also be adjusted to stay in sheltered waters (Phang Nga Bay, for example, is very calm) rather than open ocean. Inform the operator if this is a concern and they can plan a route accordingly.
Yes. Reputable charter operators are registered Thai businesses and can issue a formal tax invoice including VAT. Specify at booking that you need a company invoice — provide the company name, address, and tax ID if applicable. This is a routine request and should not be an issue with established operators.
For groups of 20 or more during November to April, aim to provisionally hold the boat 6–8 weeks in advance. Peak dates around Christmas, New Year, and Chinese New Year should be booked 3–4 months out if possible. Boats suitable for larger groups are limited in number and they fill early. A provisional hold is usually possible without full payment while you finalise group numbers.
